Always the Last to Bed

This is a little ditty I created while on a work trip away from the fam. Sometimes it rhymes and sometimes it doesn’t. Whatever!

I’ll miss you

I’ll miss you when I’m at work

I’ll miss you on the plane

I’ll be thinking of you on my conference call with big haired Elaine

I’ll miss you when I’m getting coffee

And it spills on my white shirt

It reminds me of the time you spilled grape juice on my new white linen skirt

I’ll miss you when I’m driving to my big meeting at the building so high in the sky

I can see the city for what it seems like is forever and it makes me so happy I can cry

I want to show you the view from here, with the city lights twinkling as it’s dusk

But children don’t belong here, or on the company shuttle where my seat mate wore too much musk

You made my day today when we FaceTimed. You are my sunshine. You are my smile. You are very important to me

I enjoyed hearing about your day

Especially when you got called on by Mrs. Snee and you knew exactly what to say

Thank you for sharing your day with me

Even from afar

Spongebob square pants is what I turned on in my hotel when I couldn’t sleep

It’s what I’m used to hearing at night while we snuggle tight

As I sit down for dinner with my team, I wonder are you having chicken nuggets or ice cream?

Tomorrow is the day I come back to you, actually tomorrow night

The best day of all is when I scoop you up and hold you tight

For now good night my sweetheart, I love you so. My love for you is more than you can ever know.

Good night sleep tight, little one. I’ll see you in my dreams.
